The game was created truly is to take a break from fatigue after work or study. But for today, even games can be the main work or field of study that can be studied more deeply.

KOMPAS.com - Games with the genre of "battle royale" such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) tend to be addictive and take up the time of the players. Even so, the game that was collaboratively played turned out to increase teamwork and productivity in the office. Is it true?

At least that is true according to a new study released by Brigham Young University (BYU). Specifically, BYU dares to say that playing Fortnite, PUBG, or Halo 4 for 45 minutes can increase productivity by up to 20 percent. "Seeing this, especially for the amount of time people spend playing, we were a little surprised," said representative of the research team, Greg Anderson.

"Many companies have spent thousands of dollars to hold team-building. I think, just buy (Xbox game console)," he added.

The BYU study uses an experimental method, where 352 people who do not know each other are divided into 80 teams, as compiled by the KompasTekno team on Wednesday 30 January 2019, from The Inquirer. Each team was tested in several activities, before and after participating as experimental subjects. One of the activities is called "Findamine", where participants must solve several text-based puzzles to find specific targets. After the first round was over, team members were randomly asked to choose one of three activities. Each of these activities is playing video games with teammates, doing homework individually (quiet homework), and results-oriented discussions (goal-training discussion).

Furthermore, they were given the second round of Findamine challenges. The group's cohesiveness in the goal-training team was indeed higher, but the performance of the video game team increased significantly from a score of 435 to 520. "Playing video games with the work team is truly a viable and optimal alternative to building teamwork," said the research team representative another, Mark Keith.

It should be noted, playing games such as Fortnite and PUBG to increase productivity in this case specifically refers to games with coworkers. That is, if you play Fortnite and PUBG alone with outsiders -not with one team coworkers-, this study might be invalid. In essence, collaborative game play activities that make addiction actually can have a positive impact to melt the atmosphere and build communication between coworkers. That way, productivity and work results can increase.
